Dear CJ, as MLK Jr. rightfully said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that," peace as a response to violence is the only true response. Yet, what does it take to get there? Shaming or blaming people who feel so disempowered, so disenchanted and disenfranchised, that they simply do not feel a sense of community obligation to anything that resembles access to capital resources. Once again, this is economic trauma at work, not just the failing human moral character. It takes a tremendous amount to overcome the emotional and cognitive incapacitation of scarcity and the trauma of repeated powerlessness. Too many people don't just have "not as much as they would like." They do not have enough to overcome the limbic states of stress that have become such a state of normalcy we too often fail to recognize the impact it is having on our social fabric.
